What are the top 3 travel mishaps faced by travellers from Singapore?

ACE’s travel survey reveals top 3 travel mishaps

·      78% of the Singapore respondents have experienced a travel mishap
·      Nearly one in four Singapore respondents have regretted not buying travel insurance for their leisure travel

·      70% of younger consumers (aged below 30) buy their travel insurance online
In a travel survey conducted by ACE Insurance Limited (ACE) in the last quarter of 2014, a major finding revealed that 78% of the respondents had experienced a travel mishap during their holidays. The top three travel mishaps experienced are as follows:
1.      Flight delays (54%)
2.      Falling ill (39%)
3.      Loss of baggage (19%)

Top on the list of the biggest worries while on holiday included being injured in an accident (24%), falling ill (23%) and having valuables or travel documents stolen (15%). However, they were least concerned about political uncertainty and terrorism, with just nine per cent listing it as their most pressing concern.

Consumers aged 30 and below, otherwise known as the Gen-Yers, are more worried about loss or delay of luggage than those above 40 years old, who are more worried about being injured in an accident. 79% of the younger respondents are also not likely to buy travel insurance if they are going on short trips or nearby destinations. Yet, they are travelling more than any other age groups, with 64% travelling more than twice a year. However, when they do buy travel insurance, 70% of them buy it online.

Mr Mack Eng, Country President of ACE in Singapore, commented, “As more Singaporeans become avid travellers, there is a need to advocate ‘travelling smarter’ and to ensure that they are adequately protected. ACE is providing useful travel tips and advice to help holiday-makers travel smarter by being better informed. Almost one in four respondents have gone on holidays without travel insurance and regretted it as they had encountered problems while they were abroad. Travel insurance purchase is so convenient these days with the internet and secured online payment. It is not surprising 65% of respondents from all age groups who buy travel insurance, buy it online.
A total of 525 respondents participated in the online survey which is a snapshot of the respondents’ travel habits. Over 80% travelled abroad for leisure more than twice a year and 62% used the internet for all aspects of travel, including destination research and online purchase.
